James Uliasz, Superintendent - Pinellas
Regional Juvenile Detention Center We all bear the consequences of our decisions. James Uliasz allegedly decided to drive a vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Alcohol ? A youth charged with possession of alcohol may be arrested and put in a regional juvenile detention center. James Uliasz is the superintendent of one of those centers, the Pinellas Regional Juvenile Detention Center. He, like the captain of a ship, is responsible for the safety and well being of all the people in that facility. That includes the 100+ boys and girls held there for many reasons, including illegal use of alcoholic beverages. The "captain of this ship" has been charged with impaired judgment: allegedly, he chose to drive drunk. He is an adult; he should know better; he is paid by tax dollars to look after youth. While his case is pending, he must, at a minimum, be placed on administrate leave. These leaders, by the nature of their positions as role models, must be held to a higher standard. On August 2, 2006, Cathy Corry of Justice4Kids.org, led a small group in protest at the Pinellas Regional Juvenile Justice Center in Clearwater, Florida. Here are some photos.
