Safe-Place Blog RE: Justice for Kids I agree with them, we need to stop arresting children when possible. I agree with a moratorium on the two charges mentioned by Cathy Corry. She said at least 20 or 30% of the cases brought to court are absolutely frivolous...I believe it. I know a child who was arrested for campus disruption...he was talking and wouldn't stop. The officer called the parent, and she dropped everything to go pick her child up asking him NOT to arrest the boy, and explaining of the boy's health condition and medication issue. The student wasn't harming anybody physically, and he wasn't in the classroom either. When the parent approached the school 15 minutes later, he was in handcuffs. I'm glad you're pro active to reduce the number of arrests for behavior that are not threatening to others. Maybe we need to set up portables and turn them into intervention rooms, staffing them with people who can appropriately determine the needs of the students. RE: Student from Oak Park Listen to what this young girl said...listen to all of it. She poured her heart out and reminds me so much of other students I know. She's correct, not enough people really care to talk to these children. God bless her...she's very special.
